Over 350 people attended Alumni Reunion Days on June 5 & 6, 2008, including 112 from the Class of 1958. All graduates of 1958 and before were invited to attend this annual event hosted by Michigan State University and the MSU Alumni Association.
The reunion began on Thursday, June 5 at the Stadium Tower with tours of the club football suites and the press box.
The annual Kedzie Luncheon and the Class of 1958 Induction was held beginning at 12:00 noon on the Club Level of the Stadium Tower.More than 200 MSU alumni attended with more than 80 from the Class of 1958 honored and inducted into the Kedzie Society.Stella Cash, Executive Director of the MSU Alumni Association, served as emcee.Provost Kim Wilcox welcomed the group and gave remarks on the current activities at Michigan State University.Provost Wilcox also presented Kedzie certificates to each member of the Class of 1958.The 1958 Club President Bill Bopf also welcomed the group and shared his memories of MSU.
The Kedzie Cane Award was presented to Beatrice O’Brien Richards, class of 1932 and Mr. Dale B. Ball, class of 1939 as the oldest alumna and alumnus attending the Kedzie Reunion Luncheon.
Following the luncheon and induction ceremony, a group photo of the Class of 1958 was taken around the old Sparty Statute located in the lobby of the Stadium Tower.
After the taking of the class photo, the group enjoyed a bus tour of campus, conducted by students from the Student Alumni Foundation.
The evening began with the of College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Eli Broad College of Business, College of Education, College of Nursing and College of Veterinary Medicine holding dinners for their graduates.
The evening ended with a dessert and dancing event held at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.Alumni enjoyed and danced to the smooth sounds of the Sea Cruisers. Sparty, the three time National Mascot winner, was attendance and appeared decked out in a sharp black tuxedo.
On Friday, June 6, the day kicked off early with many colleges have breakfast events. The MSUAA then offered two presentations “Current Student Research” and “Alumni Intriguing Careers.” The Student Alumni Foundation also held a panel discussion with current MSU students on “College Life Today.” They answered questions posed by the Reunion participants and enjoyed hearing of college life in 1958 and before.
The reunion concluded with a luncheon and Ice Cream Social at Cowles House.Sparty again was in attendance and helped alumni as they enjoyed ice cream from the MSU Dairy Store.
