Whether your life is full of trials and tribulations or is the best it’s ever been, there is a better life in store for you. How we approach and appreciate our lives and ourselves is the key to fulfillment. Learn how you can create your best possible life!
 
Robin Cleveland is an eternal optimist without a Pollyanna attitude. She’s been through the worst and the best life has to offer. Her goal is to help women develop and design the life they want to live, not simply accept the life they’ve been given. Robin earned her Associate and Bachelor degrees from Lansing Community College and Davenport University respectively, with highest honors. She started her first business, Cleveland Consulting, Inc. (www.clevelandconsultinginc.com), a customer satisfaction consultancy, in August of 2000. Seeing a need for women to have the support of other women, in 2004 she started her second business, TruWisdom (www.truwisdom.com). TruWisdom offers personal and professional development for women through workshops, ongoing programs, and individual coaching. Robin is a certified Life Strategies Coach through the Spencer Institute and practices life and business coaching. In addition, she is the co-founder of Inspiring Women Collaborative (www.inspiringwomencollaborative.com), an ongoing opportunity for women to connect with and support other women through life’s challenges and opportunities.

Are you frazzled by Facebook? All a twitter about Twitter? Learn how to utilize social/professional online networks to find friends, family and opportunity. A user-friendly guide to navigating these online resources. Find out what you should and should not do when social networking.

John Hill is charged with providing career services to all 420,000 MSU alumni. He also conducts career/professional/corporate development events on various topics.   He runs the 10th largest official LinkedIn alumni group with nearly 15,000 members. Hill came to MSUAA from the MSU Career Service Network where he was the internship developer for the university. Hill is a graduate of Michigan State University.

Yoga 101
Presented by Toni Thomas, MSU Athletics Yoga Teacher


Yoga has been practiced for more than 5,000 years, and currently, close to 11 million Americans are enjoying its health benefits. Yoga can hardly be called a trend.   Some believe that Yoga is a science of health. When Yoga is practiced correctly, it helps reduce the negative effects of stress on the mind and body and can help the body cope with aging.  This session will focus on exercises that can help women in coping with stress and hormonal changes as well as develop strength, flexibility and balance.

Toni Thomas carries both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Michigan State University in Kinesiology and Athletic Administration.  She began practicing yoga 10 years ago and trained under world renowned yogi, Jonny Kest.   She currently has 200 hours of training registered with Yoga Alliance.

Going Green Beyond Recycling
Presented by Jennifer Battle form MSU?s Office of Campus Sustainability

You’ve recycled your newspapers, purchased reusable shopping bags and switched your light bulbs to the little squiggly ones, now what?
 
Don’t worry, you don’t have to get rid of your Christian Dior and live off the grid. Often times, people think making more sustainable decisions means sacrificing their quality of life. Jennifer Sowa, from MSU’s Office of Campus Sustainability will teach you how to make small, but meaningful decisions to positively impact the environment and your household’s bottom line.

Jennifer recently joined MSU’s Office of Campus Sustainability in 2009 as an Assistant Director. Prior to that, she was a Project Coordinator for the Office of the VP for Finance and Operations. Jennifer leads the Be Spartan Green campaign and other communication initiatives for the Office of Campus Sustainability. She’s also an MSU alumna and has worked to integrate sustainability into her lifestyle without sacrificing her girlie favorites.

Astrology
Presented by Pat Perkins, Professional Astrologer

 Pat will be discussing how the planets at the time of birth show our life path  and serve as a guide in helping individuals actualize their talents and skills as well as understand and avoid the pitfalls and difficulties that life can bring. She will show how the symbolism of astrology shows up in our daily lives and how individuals, our state and nation are being impacted by the current planetary movements.   

Pat Perkins has over 30 years experience studying, teaching, and consulting in astrology.  She is one of the originators of the Learning Center for Astrological Studies founded in 1983, a progressive astrological learning school dedicated to the promotion and teaching of astrology where she developed several of the courses currently taught.  She recently retired her position as President to concentrate on her consulting business but will continue to instruct classes.   She also served 3 years as President of the Michigan Federation of Astrology and 22 years as a Human Resource Analyst with State Government.

The Biggest Losers
Presented by Shellay And Amy Cremen

Mother and daughter team, Shellay and Amy Cremen, participated as the purple team in Season 6 of NBC’s hit TV Show, “THE BIGGEST LOSER: Families.” Shellay started the show weighing 216 pounds and ended at 142.  Amy started at 239 pounds and weighed 135 pounds at the finale. Shellay and Amy have always struggled with their weight.  They tried many diets together, but they never seemed to follow through.  Getting on “THE BIGGEST LOSER” made them realize that they always had what it took to succeed, it just took someone to finally get them to believe in themselves.  They now want to share that message with others who have struggles in their own lives.

Shellay, 52, and Amy, 28 are from Royal Oak, MI where they live with their husband/father, Dave. Shellay is also mother to a son who lives in Florida. Shellay has been a stay at home mom, but has spent most of her time doing volunteer work. She is, and has been, involved with groups including the local Jaycees, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, her local homeless shelter and church. Amy graduated form cosmetology school in the spring of 2009. In the spring of  2010 she will receive her bachelors degree majoring in human resources with a minor in small business management. She is  part of her church’s vocal team and also sings at weddings, sporting events an other special occasions.

The Art of Beading
Presented by Malinda Falardeau from the Trellis

This session will first give you an introduction and overview of the art of beading.  You will then have an opportunity to learn and see demonstrations on different beading techniques including basic stringing, how to make earrings, pearl knotting and tying as well as seeing and learning how one-of –a-kind polymer pendants and jewelry is made. You will then be able to purchase supplies and tools to make your own creations at the Trellis’ both in the vendor emporium.

After retiring from the State of Michigan in 2003, Malinda devoted her time to her family and various causes including her grandsons’ schools, Sparrow Hospice House and Gift Shop. In December of 2003 she opened The Trellis in Mason that specialized in the art of beads and jewelry design. The Mason location is now closed but The Trellis still participates in festivals throughout Michigan and offers special beading classes and private jewelry parties.

Finding Employment in a Difficult Economy

It’s tough out in the job market right now, but there are ways you can navigate the job market to find opportunities that may not be transparent to you right now. This session will focus on:
     * Leveraging your networks on and offline
     * Developing and understanding where the jobs are right now
     * Marketing yourself in a tough economy
     * Developing a guide for your career success

Using Golf in Business
Presented by Jan Brintnall, LPGA Member Professional

 As a businesswoman how much time have you spent educating yourself and climbing the corporate ladder?  6 years? 8 years?  Or longer?  Business is about relationships, networks and connections.  BusinessMEN have known for years that more connections are made and more business is conducted on the golf course than across any conference table.  When you play golf, relationships are built and information is shared.  Playing business golf can help you expand your networks, build relationships, meet new clients and get a peek at a person’s true character.  Learn how business golf is just as important as an MBA and how getting out of the office and onto the course will advance your career.

Jan Brintnall is an LPGA ’Class A’ Member Professional and owner of Jan Brintnall Golf School, LLC.  She teaches BUS 491 “Using Golf In Business” for The Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University in both East Lansing and at the University Of St. Andrews in St. Andrews, Scotland.

This session will empower you with culinary knowledge! Have you ever wondered if there is really a difference between the variety of whisks on the market, what does a reamer do, what is that giant garlic press contraption chefs use for potatoes, what knife should I be cutting with and why, why, why?! Join Chef Denene Vincent of Le Chat Gourmet Cooking School for a fun-filled hour revealing the mysteries of kitchen gadgets, cookware and knives!

Chef Denene Vincent is the Founder and Executive Chef of Le Chat Gourmet Cooking School, offering hands-on cooking classes, team building and private events in a state-of-the-art classroom kitchen with gourmet cookware shop. Located on three acres, in the warmer months guests are invited to tour the organic gardens and collect fresh herbs and heirloom produce for use in their culinary creations. In addition, Chef Vincent also leads week-long Culinary Vacations to destinations as Tuscany, Italy and Bordeaux, France.

Clutter Gone: Getting Organized

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the accumulation of paper and other “stuff” at home and/or at your office? This session will identify some of the causes of clutter, describe the benefits of getting organized and provide tips for getting control of your clutter. Specific areas of the home will be addressed as well as the best ways to dealwith “paper paralysis” both at home and at the office. Getting organized can save you time, money and give you peace of mind.

Rita is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers. She has a Master’s degree in arts and teaching from the University of Illinois.  She is committed to helping others experience the peace of mind that getting organized can bring.  Cluttergone® strives to develop personalized systems for each individual client.  Rita’s interests include residential and office clutter management, filing systems and relocations, working with seniors, and giving presentations on organizing topics.

Staying "Uplifted"
Presented by Lisa Fowler & Millie Heinz, Certified Bra Fitters

Do you want to look 10-15 pounds thinner without dieting?  This session will talk about how a good fit bra can make a difference in your appearance. It is said that 85% of women are wearing the incorrect bra size and this session will help you learn what’s right for you so you can look and feel your best. You will learn statistics about bras as well as talk about wear and care of bras. A good fit bra that lifts and supports will do just that!

Self-professed “bra ladies” Lisa Fowler and Millie Heinz are both from Haslett where they live with their husbands and children. They are representatives of Essential Bodywear and spend a lot of time talking about how to properly support and take care of breasts.

How to Look Younger Longer - Tricks of the Trade by Christian Dior

Male and Female Differences - More Than the Obvious
Presented by Debbie & Ken Alexander

Men are like microwaves, Women are like crock pots.  Men need respect while women need love. These are just a couple of the gender differences which are inherent in men and women.  Join Debbie and Ken Alexander as they share what they have learned through 25 years of study on the topic and counseling singles and couples.   Their humorous and engaging style brings to light the importance of understanding and recognizing that men and women are different.   No, really they ARE!!  Come and hear how you can apply this knowledge to your relationships with spouses, children and coworkers.
 
Debbie and Ken have been married for over 28 years.  They have been involved with preparing couples for marriage for over 25 years.  They focus on giving couples the tools they need for a successful long-term relationship.  Together they have counseled over 100 couples and conducted seminars on this topic.  The most interesting places they conducted these seminars was in state and federal prisons.  Professionally, Ken tutors Korean professionals and students in the English language and Debbie is the Assistant Executive Director at the Capital Area Transportation Authority.  They are the proud parents of a 21-year of son.
