Elected officials must be incumbents of the positions listed below. If the position is not listed, you are not eligible to participate.

Parade order of the incumbent elected officials is as follows. The number listed to the right is the approximate order the dignitary will be in the parade.

1. President of the United States - #5
2. Governor of the State of Michigan - #6
3. U.S. Senator for State of Michigan - #20
4. Member of the U.S. House of Representatives (East Lansing)
5. MI State Senator (East Lansing) - #22
6. MI State House Representative (East Lansing) - #25
7. City of East Lansing Mayor - #35
8. City of East Lansing City Council Member - #37
9. City of Lansing Mayor - #40
10. City of Lansing Council Member (Campus Jurisdiction)
11. Township Elected Leader (Campus Jurisdiction)
12. County Commissioners (Campus Jurisdiction) - #70

**During an election year, one candidate from each party of the above positions will be allowed to participate in the parade.

Elected officials and candidates must follow the following rules:

1. As an elected official/candidate, you must be the person participating in the MSU Homecoming Parade. You may NOT send a representative in your place.
2. The elected official/candidate can ride in a car or walk with a sign or banner.
3. You must provide your own car and driver and signage for your car. Only one car or vehicle is allowed per elected official/candidate.
4. Sign or banner dimensions: no larger than 20 ft. long x 13 feet high
5. Please report to the Hannah Community Center by 5:00 p.m. Enter the Hannah Community Center parking lot via the Fern Street entrance off Abbott Road. Someone will greet you as you enter and assign you your spot in the staging area. Please park in that spot as soon as you arrive.
6. A reception will be held inside the Hannah Community Center at 5:00 p.m. Please register inside at this reception for the parade. You must attend the VIP reception to be officially registered.
7. The parade will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. so it is important that everyone is in their car and ready to GO at 6:00 p.m.
8. If riding in a car they must remain in the car during the entire length of parade.
9. NO campaigning is allowed; including no campaign literature.
10. You must attend the MANDATORY parade meeting on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at the MSU Union, Gold Room (second floor). You may send a representative in your place but they MUST personally review the rules with you. IF YOU DO NOT ATTEND THE MANDATORY MEETING, YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE.
11. Once you have been assigned a spot in the parade, it CANNOT be changed. There can be NO exceptions to this rule.
