Michigan State University is gearing up for Homecoming 2009. From October 12-17, 2009, the campus will come alive with a variety of fun-filled activities. To coincide with MSU's "Be Spartan Green" environmental stewardship initiatives, the theme is "We've Always Been Green."
The week-long celebration will include many traditional events such as the official Homecoming Parade, the MSU Alumni Grand Awards Ceremony, the Green and White pre-game brunch, and the Homecoming football game. In addition, many student activities will take place during the week.
The parade begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2009 and will feature the Spartan Marching Band, the MSU Alumni Marching Band, the MSU Cheerleaders, MSU student organizations, Greek sororities and fraternities, East Lansing community groups, high school bands, and much more. Staging for the parade begins at 4:30 p.m. at the corner of Abbott and Burcham Roads in East Lansing. The Homecoming Committee encourages parade participants to focus parade entries around the theme "We've Always Been Green" by carrying signs or posters promoting environmentally green initiatives and by using recycled materials to build floats. Check back for guidelines on how to make your entry environmentally "Green."Click here to submit your parade entry.
Registered Student Organizations will be eligible to receive parade awards in the following categories: best float, best banner, best group, best Spartan spirit and best residence hall. Entries will be judged based on the theme focus and the use of environmentally green materials.
In addition, a limited number of flatbeds will be available for student groups on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to reserve a flatbed, please submit your request on the parade entry form. Flatbeds will be available at the concourse area of the stadium beginning Monday, October 12th.
For groups reserving flatbeds, the southeast concourse area of the Stadium will be available for building floats beginning Monday, October 12th and will continue each night until Thursday, October 15th. A tool crib with tools will be available each night to assist in building floats.
The parade will begin at the intersection of Abbott Road and Burcham Drive at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, will travel east on Grand River and will conclude on the MSU campus.
