Michigan State University is gearing up for Homecoming 2008. From September 26-October 4, the campus will come alive with a variety of fun-filled activities surrounding the 2008 Olympics. To help celebrate the Olympics we will honor former MSU Olympians as they serve as the 2008 Homecoming Grand Marshals. This year's theme is "Go for the Green."
The week-long celebration will include many traditional events such as the official Homecoming Parade, the MSU Alumni Grand Awards Ceremony, the Green and White pre-game brunch, and the Homecoming football game.
The parade begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2008 and will feature the Spartan Marching Band, the MSU Alumni Marching Band, the MSU Cheerleaders, MSU student organizations, Greek sororities and fraternities, East Lansing community groups, high school bands, and much more. We welcome all campus and community groups to participate in the parade. Click here to submit an entry for the parade. The deadline date to enter is Friday, September 19, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. Registered Student Organizations will be eligible to receive parade awards in the following categories: best float, best banner, best group, best Spartan spirit and best residence hall. Registered Student Organizations are also eliglible to receive $300 for the making of a float. You must be an official MSU registered group to apply. The $300 will be reimbursed into your RSO account after the parade.
In addition, a limited number of flatbeds will be available for student groups on a first come, first served basis. For groups reserving flatbeds, the concourse area of the Stadium will be available for building floats beginning Monday, September 29th and will continue each night until Thursday, October 2nd. The parade will begin at the intersection of Abbott Road and Burcham Drive at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center. Parade participants will make their way south on Abbott Road to the intersection of Grand River Avenue and then travel east on Grand River Avenue to Bogue Street. The parade will end at the IM East Field located east of the Wharton Center.
In addition, East Lansing High School is also celebrating its Homecoming and will also hold a Homecoming Parade. The parade will take place prior to the MSU Homecoming Parade beginning at 5:30 p.m. The parade will start at East Lansing High School, proceed west on Burcham, south on Abbott, east on Grand River and north on Bailey to Old Hickory Road. The parade will end at East Lansing High School.
In April, the Homecoming Court Committee selected ten MSU students to serve on the 2008-09 Homecoming Court. The Court will represent MSU throughout the year at a variety of MSU, community, and statewide functions.
Before fans head to Spartan Stadium on Saturday, they can rally at the annual MSU Alumni Association Green and White Brunch at the Kellogg Center. Many special guests will be in attendance. The brunch begins three hours prior to kick-off. Pre-registration is required. This event sells out every year, so sign up early!

The MSU football team and 2nd-year Coach Mark Dantanio will take on the Iowa Hawkeyes for the annual Homecoming football game. Half-time will feature the Spartan Marching Band, MSU Olympians, the 2008 Homecoming Court, and the MSU Homecoming Parade award winners.
