As alumni and friends of the University celebrate the return of football
season to campus, we hope you'll join us in extending best wishes for a
speedy recovery to a couple of wonderful Spartans:
- Curt
Hoopingarner, of the MSU
Alumni Club of Atlanta, Georgia,
recently underwent six-way coronary by-pass surgery last week
and was released to go home to recuperate a few days later.
You can send a note to 3202 Eagle Watch Drive, Woodstock, GA 30189,
or by e-mail to CHooping@us.ibm.com
- Jackie
Taylor, immediate past president of the MSU
Alumni Club of West Michigan,
who was hit by another driver while in Canada last week. She has
a fractured pelvis and bruised ribs, but required no surgery.
She can be reached by e-mail at Jacqueline.Taylor@davenport.edu
Our
Alumni Club Web Site Pick Of the Week: Congratulations
to Pat Page, secretary of the Space Coast MSU Alumni Club (Melbourne, FL), for working
with an MSU Student to develop a new web site for this active club near
Cape Canaveral. It's a great web site that features neat links to
the University and to local community attractions. You can even see the
latest weather conditions for Cocoa Beach! The site is http://www.msu.edu/~msuaa053/ ; Send your comments to Pat
at grtdane@mpinet.net
Speaking of cool web sites, check out the newly updated web site for the
MSU Alumni Club of Washington, D.C.
You can find it at http://www.dcspartans.com Congratulations to club president
Stacey Flanagan and secretary Kelly Holdcraft and the club
board on producing a fine newsletter (we just received our copy in the mail)
It's an informative, comprehensive six page overview for alumni in the area.
Did you know there are more than 5,495 Spartans within the Beltway
of our nation's capital? Better yet, more than 600 are members
of the MSU Alumni Association!
Look for exciting Spartan events in the coming year for D.C. alumni, including
the return of the fabulous Spartan Splendor reception for all Spartans working
in Federal government.
And, in closing, a hearty Spartan thank-you to the MSU
Alumni Club of Genesee County (Flint) for another successful
Spartan Sports Night last week. Club president Chris Gleason
and the club board worked hard to plan and produce a family event that brought
in hundreds of Genesee Spartans for food, fun, and visits by "Sparty", Athletic
Director Ron Mason, Head Women's Basketball coach Joanne P. McCallie, Softball Coach Jacquie Josephs, and MSUAA Executive
Director Keith A. Williams. The club raised several thousand
dollars for undergraduate student scholarships. And, in a "pass the
can" fund raiser, guests kicked in an additional $700.00 for the Sparty
Statue Restoration fund! Way to go, Flint Spartans! (See photo below) Go Green!
