Dear
Regional Clubs, Constituent Groups and National Board Members:
Greetings from East Lansing! This is a wonderful time of the year,
with trees in full bloom, the pink, purple and white lilacs budding and
a blaze of color from all of the mid-spring flowers on the campus grounds.
It's a bit quieter than usual, with spring commencements ceremonies now
passed. There's only a few more days before students return for the
summer semester at Michigan State University.
A story from the "Spartan Sports Desk" of interest to basketball fans:
Tom Izzo, head coach of Spartan Men's Basketball, has been named Head Coach
of the 2003 USA Pan American Games, which will compete August 2-6 in Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic. Washington's Lorenzo Romar and Missouri's Quin
Snyder will serve as assistant coaches on the squad. For more on this story,

On Saturday, the MSU Alumni Club of Dallas-Ft Worth is hosting its
4th Annual DFW MSU Golf Tournament and Scholarship
Drive. This signature event typically draws more
than 100 Spartans from the north Texas area. According to Club President
Chris Horner:
- "The event
will again be a four-person scramble and informal, with plenty of great
prizes awarded at the end including prizes for 1st place, longest drive
and longest putt. The cost is $80 per person for paid members
of the DFW MSU Alumni Club, and $95 for non-members (please note that
an annual membership is $15). This fee includes green fees, cart,
range balls and post-round prizes and giveaways."
This is a great
event put on by an active group of young alumni leaders. You can find
more details about this event and the other activities DFW Spartans are
doing at the club's REALLY COOL web site, http://www.dfwmsualumni.com/

Congratulations to the MSU Alumni Club of Orange
County (California) on having raised the funds for their Endowed
Scholarship Fund, valued at $100,000.00. The club sponsored
its annual golf outing and dinner this past Tuesday at the Tijeras Creek
Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. Club President Gary Pyatt
had the pleasure of presenting the first two scholarship recipients, incoming
freshmen Andrew Hewitt and Mark Beroza. The third
scholarship recipient, George Westphalen, was still in East Lansing,
still a practising student athlete. George is the Grandson of
Orange County club founding president Bill Roberts. Bill tells
us he is so proud that the Orange County Alumni Club set a goal of raising
a scholarship endowment, and that it was able to reach its goal in just
a few short years. Among the guests attending Tuesday's event
was MSU Athletic Director Ron Mason (see photo below)
